That is good info Ian, as soon as we identified the patch we backed it off. Luckily, we were able to uninstall the patch and get our users back to normal. I will keep that article in mind if we run into those issues.

I also had the same issue, clients with PowerPoint 2003 had problems opening files.

Because WSUS had already deployed the KB2464588 patch, I tried getting WSUS to remove the patch on those PCs that had it.
I used the WSUS console to select the patch, right clicked it and chose "Approve" and then "Approved for Removal" from the drop-down menu.

Although WSUS soon reported fewer PC as having the patch installed, it wasn't actually removed from the PC. WSUS now reports many PCs as "Failed" for this patch, so looks like the removal isn't working here at least.

Removing the patch from — Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs — worked on some PCs but others complained “The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable” and a reference to “OUTLOOK.msp” – even though it is a PowerPoint patch!

I found this article "How to fix MSI software update registration corruption issues" — http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971187 — and ran the fix described. Then I could uninstall the KB2464588 patch.
